Hush Now - Online Creative Writing Workshop
Inspired by the moving stories of Hush Now, join poet Sara-Jane Astbury in an online creative writing workshop.
This workshop will explore the themes and issues raised in the Hush Now production. Using archive material and Feral’s own research, we will examine the provision made for unmarried mothers in the Black Country, their treatment and individual stories. We will explore the concept of ‘sense of place’ and how we can respond sensitively, intuitively and creatively to the sites and environments of the Mother & Baby Homes.
Through structured writing exercises, we will think about how these different environments impacted on the lives of the women and their relationships. We will explore ways of reclaiming the marginalised voices of past lives so that they speak to the present. The writing produced in this workshop will feed into the song-writing session led by Olivia Preye, and lead to the creation of Black Country songs that will tell the stories of these hidden women. The workshop is suitable for all levels, from beginners to more seasoned writers.
Each session is free and will be delivered online via Zoom - bookers will be emailed with a joining link in advance of the session. Places for each workshop are limited to 12, and pre-booking is essential.
As the content produced in the workshops will be linked, participants are encouraged to take part in both creative writing and songwriting sessions, but it isn't mandatory.
